The Structure of Carbon Black
Aug 23, 2023
Carbon black is formed by high-temperature cracking or deposition of carbon elements, with porosity, large specific surface area, and good chemical stability. It is widely used in rubber, ink, plastics, coatings, asphalt, and other fields. The structure of carbon black mainly includes pore structure, specific surface area, surface chemical properties, etc. These properties determine the performance and application value of carbon black.
The structure of carbon black is closely related to the composition and properties of the raw oil. The higher the aromatic content in the raw oil, the higher the structure of the carbon black produced. The shorter the residence time of the core of carbon black particles in the high-temperature zone, the lower the structure of carbon black. In addition, the structure and nozzle form of the reaction furnace also have an impact on the structure of carbon black.
In the production of carbon black using the oil furnace method, the following methods can usually be used to adjust the structure of carbon black.
1. Improve the structure of carbon black:
1) Using raw materials with high aromatic content;
2) Use the oil nozzle with larger spray angle;
3) Design and produce high structure carbon black reaction furnaces;
4) Reduce the level of turbulence in the reaction furnace.
2. Reduce the structure of carbon black:
1) Adding alkali metal salts to the raw oil is the most effective way to reduce the structure of carbon black, depending on the concentration of alkali metals,
When 0.01-0.04% of its weight is added to the raw oil, the oil absorption value can be reduced by 0.1-0.3 milliliters/gram:
2) Design and produce a reaction furnace for low structure carbon black;
3) Using raw materials with low aromatic content and ability to reduce carbon black structure;
4) Use oil nozzle with small spray angle;
5) Improve the turbulence level in the reaction furnace.
