Introduction of carbon black

Apr 16, 2021

Carbon black is an amorphous carbon. It is a light, loose and extremely fine black powder with a very large surface area ranging from 10 to 3000m2/g. It is a carbonaceous material (coal, natural gas, heavy oil, fuel oil, etc.) that undergoes incomplete combustion under insufficient air conditions. Or the product derived from thermal decomposition. Those made of natural gas are called "gas black", those made of oil are called "lamp black", and those made of acetylene are called "acetylene black". In addition, there are "slot black" and "furnace black". According to the performance of carbon black, there are "reinforcing carbon black", "conductive carbon black", and "wear-resistant carbon black". It can be used as a black dye, used to make Chinese ink, ink, paint, etc., and also used as a reinforcing agent for rubber.

On October 27, 2017, the list of carcinogens published by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization was initially compiled for reference. Carbon black is in the list of 2B carcinogens.
